On assignment: Shipbreakers (Pakistan)

Assignments always bring with them a special sense of excitement and tension. It's a performance, and you have to deliver. The assignments I do take me all over the world and have given me access to places and people that I would otherwise never have come in contact with.

I have photographed more than 50 feature stories for the Smithsonian Magazine and explored the worlds of bio-medical research, health care, cement, steel, dynamite, advanced weapons systems, airlines, ports, shipbuilding, banking, hotels, horse racing, international development, toxic waste

clean-up and much more for Fortune 500 corporations, foundations, hospitals, and national publications.

This gallery features, on a changing basis, some of my favorite assignments from the past 25 years.
